WOODEN TOY QUARTERLY
I have a subscription to the amazing Stack Magazines which is a service that distributes independent magazines from around the world. Each month I have the excitement of being delivered a brand new magazine which I most probably haven't come across before. If you are into magazines and love trying new things I would definitely recommend giving it a go, visit the Stack magazine website HERE. This post however is based upon my most recent delivery from Stack Magazines which is the beautifully produced Wooden Toy Quarterly.
The graphics of this magazine are one of the best I have come across, the attention to detail is truly something the creators should be proud of. When reading you are not just given large chunks of writing which ensures the readers interest is kept throughout. It was also exciting having a number of items to look through rather than just having the one magazine.
This was the 7th edition of this magazine which happened to be the music edition which I was double excited about. Each edition has a different theme ranging from vintage to collectors to black and white. I definitely will be keeping my eye out on this magazine as I believe it has a lot to offer and really comes across as something that should be collected and be given pride of place in your bookshelf.
My favourite article within this magazine is shown in the images below and was an interview with Matthieu Bessudo most commonly known as McBess. I absolutely love his illustrations and the interview was interesting to read as it was not one of them *ask the same question and give the same answer for every interiew* kind of things.
I think McBess is the coolest illustrator I have come across in a while and he even makes music, check out the short video below...

Tara McPherson
I have fallen in love with the work of the talented Tara McPherson. She is known for producing posters for bands and this is how I came across her work. I just think that every piece she does is something that I would quite happily cover my walls in. She is an American artist who produces drawings, paintings, illustrations, prints and sculptures. McPherson also has a range of merchandise which include toys styled using her own unique designs. My favourite piece of work is the Neurosis and Mastodon poster shown below as I am a big fan of Mastodon and I think that the design is perfect. Check out her website from the link below to see all of McPherson's work.

Nicky Barkla
The illustrations shown below are from Australian artist, Nicky Barkla. I absolutely love these psychedelic paintings of fictional characters ranging from Voldemort to Spiderman. My favourite is the one of Edward Scissorhands for the reason that this character is often related to dark colours and therefore creating an illustration with a lot of colour gives the character new life. The fun use of colour and the painting technique work together perfectly to create amazing pieces of work. You should definitely check her work out...

Fab Ciraolo
I have recently discovered an artist which I would now describe as one of my favourites. His name is Fab Ciraolo, he is an illustrator who manages to combine pop-culture, sci-fi and fantasy. I love how he manages to make something out of the ordinary e.g. the rock Marilyn Monroe, look so elegant. The use of the harmonious colours enables the illustrations to create a juxtaposition. Within Ciraolo's work the attention to detail is the main thing that catches my eye, from the Trainspotting photo on the wall to the tattoos on Monroe. I believe that there is a lot more to come from this artist so I would advise all to keep an eye out.
You can find more of his work from here: http://fabianciraolo.blogspot.com/
