Nicky Barkla
The illustrations shown below are from Australian artist, Nicky Barkla. I absolutely love these psychedelic paintings of fictional characters ranging from Voldemort to Spiderman. My favourite is the one of Edward Scissorhands for the reason that this character is often related to dark colours and therefore creating an illustration with a lot of colour gives the character new life. The fun use of colour and the painting technique work together perfectly to create amazing pieces of work. You should definitely check her work out...

Live Music
I have come across a website called Moshcam which allows you to see live gigs with a variety of genres to choose from. I think this is a great website because the videos are of a good quality and you can build your own playlist of your favourites to listen and watch. Also there are some great interviews with various artists on this site. I have attached a video to this post of a band that I really admire which is Band of Skulls, they are performing 'Light of the Morning' and 'Death by Diamonds and Pearls' in London.

Nomerz Street Art
A street artist under the name Nomerz has in the past year been gracing the streets of Russia with his whimsical work. I think that he deserves extra credit with his designs because he manages to bring derelict buildings and urban spaces to life. He adds faces in a way which incorporates the buildings and makes them look as though they are alive. My favourite is 'The Big Brother' because it seems to add something quirky to the dull urban space.

Creepers
I am not much of a shoe person however I have wanted to purchase a pair of Creepers for a long while now, however being a jobless student I haven't been able to afford any. I was planning on saving up for the real deal which cost around £84.00, but after having a browse on Amazon I came across a website which sell a copy of the Underground Creepers. The website is called Garage Shoes and has a variety of colours and material versions of the shoes. With these fake Creepers only costing £24.99 I thought that I should take advantage of this.
Below is a photo of my shoes; I decided to stick to having plain black because I knew I would want to wear them all the time and it is an easy colour to work with. I am also hoping to purchase some more in another colour/pattern. I absolutely love them and they are of a good quality so I would definitely recommend the website.
Also one of my favourite bands Turbowolf have released a new video which I think is ace, take a look...

Hit The Deck Festival
As I am studying in Nottingham it means there is a hell of a lot going down when it comes to gigs. With venues like Rock City and Rescue Rooms there is definitely an opportunity for the City to host some great events. I had wanted to go to Hit The Deck last year however as I lived in Cheltenham I was unfortunately unable to attend. However now that I am studying in Nottingham this means that I had no excuse not to go! The festival was on Sunday 22nd April and sure as hell exceeded my expectations. Below is the line up which spread across 5 stages with plenty to offer from 12pm through to 11pm.
During the event graffiti artists were able to cover a cube with their work which I though was a great idea. It showed how talented the artists were as they drew freely and managed to bring art and music together.
Imperial Leisure shown below are a band which I first witnessed on the streets in Gloucester town centre and to see them come this far was amazing. They managed to attract a great crowd in The Forum and really got the day going for me as the set was great fun with the fans letting lose and getting involved. I can't wait to see these again and I would definitely recommend them as a band to watch out for...
This was the first time I had seen Hildamay (image below) and they sure as hell did not let me down. Even though this band were early on in the day they still managed to create a great atmosphere.

I saw so many bands including Cancer Bats, Bat Sabbath, Heights, Don Broco and Polar, all were insane as expected. It was the 3rd time I had seen Lower Than Atlantis this year and every time I see them they get even better than before. At this festival the band had a massive following and seemed to be one of the most popular bands of the day which meant that crowd involvement was at a maximum. It was lovely however to end the night with Kids in Glass Houses; I used to be a big fan of these in my younger years and so enjoyed the fact that they used this opportunity to play some of their old tunes.
Over all I had an awesome time and will leave you with an epic moment from the Lower Than Atlantis set (1:25), bring on Hit The Deck 2013!

Double Exposure Photography
I have decided that I need to become more committed to this blog and I am hereby pledging to post once a day for the next month. (I wonder how well this will go) So to begin...

Captivating double exposure photographs by Jon Duenas
I have come across some beautiful photography by Jon Duenas who is a fashion and fine art photographer. The above images show his work he has recently produced using double exposure on the images. I think this photographers work is great and helps to express emotion and creates a link between the beauty of nature and women with a pure vision. When researching this I also came across another photographer who I believe has a more edgy way of using double exposure. Below are some further examples of multiple exposure images from German photographer Florian Imgrund.

Advertising At Its Best
So I have been browsing the internet to come across a video which I believe shows how creative you can get when advertising. The TV channel TNT which specialises in drama wanted to promote themselves and in my opinion I believe that they have done this perfectly. The video below from YouTube shows what they did...

I am a big fan of this as it really raises awareness of the type of channel it is. This advertising shocks the public as it is not what they were expecting and therefore will encourage them to spread the word and as a result improving the knowledge of the channel. The video now has over 4 million views which goes to show that it has definitely worked!
